  • Zanello, a grape variety once abundant in the picturesque landscapes of Monferrato Casalese during the 1700s, shared its domain with the renowned Grignolino.
  • Its story unfolds amidst the gentle hills, where it contributed to the rich viticultural heritage of the region. With its capricious harvests and the occasional blush of its berries, Zanello added a touch of intrigue to the vineyards.
  • However, as time marched forward, its presence gradually faded into obscurity, leaving behind whispers of its past glory. Today, Zanello stands on the verge of extinction, a poignant reminder of the ever-evolving tapestry of viticulture.

Recent experiments in microvinification have brought into question Zanello’s capacity to yield wines of noteworthy quality. These endeavors have unveiled a delicate tannic presence in the wine, coupled with a unique orange hue that sets it apart from other varietals. Unlike the robust acidity characteristic of Grignolinos, Zanello wines tend to display a more subdued acidity, along with a gentler alcohol content.
