- Vernaccia di San Gimignano is one of Italy’s oldest wines, with documented references dating back to 1276. It was highly praised during the Renaissance and has been enjoyed by many notable figures, including Michelangelo and Dante Alighieri.
- The wine was granted DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status in 1966, one of the first in Italy to do so, and was elevated to DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) status in 1993, the highest classification in Italian wine.
