The true Trebbiano Giallo is historically associated with the Castelli Romani area in Lazio.
This variety played a significant role in the traditional wine blends of the Roman countryside. In contrast, Trebbiano Toscano is a more recent introduction to the region and is not native to Lazio.
Despite the consistently high quality of the wine produced from Trebbiano Giallo, the grape has virtually disappeared due to its susceptibility to diseases, small bunch size, and low yield. These challenges have led to its decline in favor of more robust and productive varieties, even though the wines made from Trebbiano Giallo were renowned for their exceptional quality.
Map of historic hometown
Trebbiano Giallo often exhibits a pronounced aromatic profile, with notes of ripe citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, along with hints of tropical fruits like pineapple and mango. These aromas can be quite expressive and inviting.
In addition to its fruity character, Trebbiano Giallo may also display floral notes, such as white flowers and blossom, adding an extra layer of complexity to its aroma profile. Herbal nuances, such as hints of chamomile or thyme, might also be present, contributing to its aromatic richness.
