- Schiopettino, up until 1976, faced stringent regulations imposed by the local government of Prepotto, which essentially restricted its cultivation.
- Despite these legal hurdles, Schiopettino has found its niche in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, also occasionally recognized under the name Pocalza.
- This grape variety, however, exhibits a particular sensitivity to its environment, thriving best in the unique terroir of its native region.

There are two distinguished terroirs recognized as grand cru areas for Schioppettino: Prepotto and Albana, alongside the renowned Cialla.
Schioppettino vines have the potential to produce exceptionally refined red wines, infused with the essence of black currant, black cherry, and subtle hints of green peppercorns. These wines boast a notable acidity and velvety tannins. With aging, they acquire additional layers of complexity, unveiling nuances of underbrush and tar. However, what truly sets them apart is their medium-bodied profile, balanced acidity, and the distinctive presence of green peppercorn, imparting a unique character to each sip.
