  • The name Nosiola originates from the Italian word “nocciola,” meaning hazelnut, reflecting the grape’s hue and the aroma it imparts to the wine.
  • This versatile grape variety can yield delightful dry white wines, characterized by a crisp, concentrated lemony zest. When left to ripen late on the vine or air-dried, Nosiola can produce some of the world’s most exquisite sweet wines.
  • Interestingly, Nosiola was long mistaken for Durella, underscoring its historical significance and the depth of its character.

Map of historic hometown

Nosiola grapes are prized for producing two distinct styles of wine: a light and invigorating dry white, as well as the lusciously sweet vino santo. Dry Nosiola wines enchant with delicate aromas of hazelnut, white flowers, and citrus, delivering a refreshing palate underscored by a remarkable saline essence that lingers delightfully. Meanwhile, Vino Santos crafted from Nosiola grapes offer a rich tapestry of flavors, boasting complexity and sweetness with notes of ripe peach, almond paste, lime, candied pineapple, and tropical fruit jelly. Elevated by the variety’s signature high acidity, these wines elevate the palate experience, extending the sumptuous flavors long after each sip.
