  • Fortana exhibits remarkable intravarietal variability, resulting in numerous biotypes that display distinct phenotypic differences.

  • As a rustic variety, Fortana shares similarities with wild grapevines, resembling Lambruscos to some extent.

  • The wine crafted from Fortana grapes reaches its pinnacle near Ferrara, particularly in the Bosco Eliceo region, recognized as the premier terroir for this variety. Bosco Eliceo stands as the sole grand cru for Fortana, and it is the only DOC that permits the production of wines composed entirely of Fortana grapes, offering a unique expression of the varietal.

A high-quality Fortana wine is distinguished by vibrant aromas and flavors of red cherry and raspberry, complemented by nuanced notes of cocoa, black pepper, quinine, and liquorice.

Sparkling renditions of Fortana exhibit more pronounced floral aromas, while excellent rosé versions also exist.

Fortana wines are versatile in terms of sweetness, ranging from dry to sweet varieties. Among these, the dry sparkling version is the most traditional and characteristic expression of the grape.
