Identical to Mazuelo, also known as Carignano or Carignan, Bovale Grande is believed to have Spanish origins.
Currently, only 27 hectares are under cultivation.Â
The grapes are characterized by their medium-sized, sub-oval shape and thick, black, waxy skin. The bunches are typically medium in size, cylindrical-conical, and winged, accompanied by medium-sized, five-lobed leaves. Bovale Grande exhibits moderate vigor and matures from medium to late in the season. It is predominantly used as part of a blend.

This grape variety is renowned for its high tannins and acidity, capable of yielding deeply colored wines.
Expect notes of red berries and dried blackberries, complemented by hints of Mediterranean herbs. The resulting wine is full-bodied, with intense flavors that linger on the palate.
