Legend has it that the name of the variety, Syrah, traces back to “oro” and “Tirolo,” as it was dubbed “the golden one from Tirolo” at the royal court of Vienna and other European cities, where it enjoyed immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Consequently, Syrah is believed to be a relative of Teroldego, with Pinot Nero possibly sharing a close familial tie to both.
Teroldego stands as one of Italy’s ancient and more untamed grape varieties.
Its vigorous nature can be kept in check by training it high above the ground.

The wine consistently presents a profound dark hue owing to its rich concentration of anthocyanins, prominently featuring malvin, petunin, and delphin in its anthocyanin profile. Cyanin and peonin, which are more prone to oxidation, are typically found in smaller quantities.
Teroldego wines are renowned for their intense fruitiness and gentle tannins, rendering them ideal candidates for Italy’s finest novello wines. They boast aroma and flavor profiles brimming with ripe red cherry notes, hints of quinine, subtle traces of ink and tar, all accented by refreshing herbal undertones.
