Legend has it that Fogarina was stumbled upon by Carlo Simonazzo in 1820 while fishing along the Crostolina River, where he encountered grapevines that were “unlike anything he had ever seen before.”
Fogarina is predominantly cultivated around Modena.
Recent DNA analysis suggests potential relationships between Fogarina, Lambrusco Marani, and possibly Raboso Piave.
