Corvina

  • Corvino

Red

  • Corvina stands as the cornerstone grape in Valpolicella and Amarone wines, playing a pivotal role in shaping their character and quality.

  • Distinct from Corvinone, Corvina is recognised as a separate grape variety.

  • Corvina has parent-offspring relationships with Refosco del Peduncolo Rosso and Rondinella, further highlighting its significance within the viticultural landscape.

Map of historic hometown

While the grape’s name might suggest a darker hue, Corvina wines typically exhibit a bright red color rather than an ultra-dark shade.

Notably, these wines boast very fine tannins and offer a harmonious blend of violet, blackberry, and red cherry flavors, often accompanied by a delicate aromatic hint of herbs.

Certain producers opt to age Corvina wines at least partially in cherrywood barrels. This unique approach enhances their sweet red cherry notes, infusing the wine with an almost resinous quality.
